This is a standard Full Day Intro Session with a focus front line work with Indigenous people who struggle with many typical and expected symptoms of Indigenous complex, intergenerational trauma we see today. Often this manifests in behavioural, mental health and addiction-related problems, and interventions are ineffective when trauma is ignored.

The goal for this workshop is to get participants working together to restore the canoe (Indigenous worldview, cultural values, ethics, practices, pedagogies, technologies, traditional medicines, traditional foods, and so much more) in modern society. Yes, it can be done!
Understanding why things are the way they are for ALL Indigenous people today is KEY in moving forward in collective healing and wellness.

There is no shame or blame in this session. Hard questions can be asked and discussed around how to address issues like lateral violence in Indigenous communities, addictions, mental health realities, etc.
What needs to be restored for Indigenous people to be well? This workshop focuses on that, and it comes down to two things.

What is essential though, is the journey participants make from their heads to their hearts, so they become emotionally invested in changing, unsettled and making significant changes in their social environment.
This workshop will also encourage participants to question status quo, including the effectiveness of some Indigenous-themed campaigns, conferences, movements, etc. when the problems for Indigenous people just keep getting worse. Even after decades of funding, protesting, advancement...why is it still getting worse? It is time to re-think the approaches.
